The site:
Ectes Dot Net is mine. I built it, line after line. While that sounds impressive, it really isn't. I mean, it took less than a day to get the basic code down for the whole site. That doesn't mean I'm a awesome web designer or anything. It means that making a website is easy and you can do it by yourself with programs that come pre-installed on your computer.
This site was made in a plain text editor, using GIMP for the three images I use on the site.
The basic philosophy behind the site is that I dont need any fancy 'content management systems' or any scripting to do anything that I can do myself in, probably, half the time. Granted there are some things that can't be done in CSS and html, but that is a small proportion of my site.
I dont like 'social networking'. Sites like Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Twitter and the likes can kiss my ass. Nothing on my site will ever relate back to them, unless it's to show how useless they are. The internet is not for everyone, so stop making it so. Most of the people who use those sites are the types of people we found the internet to avoid.
You dont have to have an account or username to use my site. Everything here is as it should be - transparent and open.
Ectes:
I'm Ectes Rutole. A lot of people on IRC, or whenever I tell them that's my name, ask what it means. I tell them the same thing each time. It means me. Just like their name means them. I just happen to prefer using two different names. One for real life endeavours and all that fiddly legal stuff, and one for my online adventures. Call me either. Doesn't worry me.
Who am I, though? Well, I'm a bored twenty-something guy trying to find where it is I actually belong. Other than that, I'm just Ectes. I'm not incredibly special or unique. I'm not famous or rich. Hell, odds are I'm not someone you even want to know. But the fact remains that you are reading this, so you're curious. My advice? Hang around for a bit, see how I grow on you.
Slappy:
Slappy is an IRC bot. He's been a part of the site since its inception. However, of late, he's been AWOL. He came back to IRC the night I uploaded the new layout. He's somewhat different from the loud, drunk, angry bot he used to be. I'll figure it out.
